News from Saint Michael’s

We’d like to share some special stories with you…

Debby’s story

“I can’t even find the words to explain how wonderful Saint Michael’s was- just outstanding.

“Every time the team helped Mum, they did it so beautifully in a way that was just right. Mum’s end of life care was exactly how I wanted it to be.”

Debby and mum, Pamela

“For example, while Mum was in her final hours, the healthcare assistant put knitted love hearts above Mum’s head. My son, daughter and I all take these everywhere with us now and it’s such a special way to remember her.”

Debby Thornes shares special memories of her mum Pamela, and how our team looked after her whole family.

Jail or Bail event in aid of Saint Michael’s

A team of well-known local figures and community leaders will be facing ‘time behind bars’ on October 27 – as part of a fun fundraiser in aid of Saint Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate.

Nick Hancock from local radio channel Your Harrogate has organised the Jail or Bail fundraiser which will involve the team being locked up and only released if they meet a fundraising target of £500.

The team, which includes James Rycroft from Vida Healthcare, Harry Gator from Harrogate Town Football Club and Matthew Mackeness from Rudding Park, will be doing ‘porridge’ for their entirely fictitious crimes at The Harrogate Inn and will have four hours to come up with their bail to ensure release.

During the event, they will have their mugshots taken, spend time in the exercise yard and most importantly, try to raise as much money as possible to secure their release and support the hospice care charity.

Nick, creative director of Your Harrogate said he wanted to raise funds for Saint Michael’s because: “Working in the Harrogate district for so many years, you realise that pretty much everyone you meet has had some experience of the care and support offered by Saint Michael’s.”

“This seemed like a great way to support this well-loved charity.”
Tony Collins, chief executive of Saint Michael’s Hospice: “We are delighted that Nick and his team have chosen to support us in this imaginative and fun way. We wish everyone concerned much luck in raising their ‘bail’ in time.
“The money they raise will make a real difference to our vital services across the Harrogate District and we are very grateful to everyone who is taking part.’’
