Free pizza for 3,000 people” — Rudy’s reveals opening date for new Harrogate restaurant
A hugely popular pizza brand is about to land in Harrogate — and it’s giving away thousands of free pizzas to celebrate.
Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana has confirmed it will open its new restaurant on Saturday, April 11, taking over the former Banyan Bar and Restaurant on John Street.
The launch is already generating major buzz, thanks in part to its “Pizza on Us” event, which will see 3,000 free pizzas handed out to early visitors.
Inside, the new venue will seat around 120 diners, with space for another 35 outside — bringing a taste of authentic Neapolitan pizza to the heart of Harrogate.
Neal Bates of Rudy’s said the response so far has exceeded expectations.
“We’re really excited for our Harrogate launch and have been delighted by the reaction,” he said.
“Whether you’re one of the lucky 3,000 joining us for free pizza, attending our charity evening with the Harrogate Homeless Project, or just coming along to try us for the first time, we can’t wait to welcome you.”
As part of opening celebrations, the restaurant will also host a special charity night, with all profits going to the Harrogate Homeless Project.
Founded in Manchester in 2015, Rudy’s has grown rapidly into one of the UK’s best-known pizza brands, with 36 locations nationwide — and Harrogate is next.

Harrogate McDonald’s reopens after major makeover – inside the new look restaurant
A popular McDonald’s in Harrogate has reopened after a month-long closure – and customers are already noticing a dramatic transformation.
The busy Cambridge Road branch at Nidderdale House shut in February for a major refurbishment and has now unveiled a sleek new interior, upgraded technology and a redesigned layout focused on faster service.
The revamp is part of McDonald’s ‘Convenience of the Future’ programme, aimed at improving the overall customer experience.
Visitors will find a brighter, more open dining space, newly arranged self-order kiosks and digital screens throughout. Behind the scenes, the kitchen has been upgraded with a larger order assembly area, alongside a dedicated zone for delivery drivers and takeaway collections.
The restaurant is operated by local franchisee Tom Atherton, who said he was proud to invest in Harrogate and bring a “fresh new look and feel” to the town centre location.
Harrogate’s Mayor, Coun Chris Aldred, joined the reopening celebrations, saying the investment supports jobs and helps keep the town centre vibrant.
To mark the relaunch, the restaurant will host a family fun day on March 21, with games and face painting planned for younger visitors.
The reopening comes as McDonald’s continues to roll out its latest restaurant design across the UK, focusing on speed, convenience and a more modern customer experience.

A well-known North East Indian restaurant is heading to Harrogate, bringing more than five decades of culinary experience to one of the town’s busiest dining streets.
Abu’s, a family-run favourite in Darlington since 2019, is preparing to open at 19 Cheltenham Crescent — a location previously home to Kinara Tandoori and long associated with Indian cuisine. The area is already a thriving hub for food and drink, making it a high-profile move for the expanding brand.
The restaurant is led by Abu Raihan and his father, Chef Abdul Mannan, who has an impressive 53 years of experience in the kitchen. The Harrogate opening marks a meaningful return for the family: Chef Mannan previously worked in the town during the 1980s, and Abu himself was born here.
Abu’s is known for its “Apna” Indian cuisine — with “Apna” meaning “ours” — reflecting the family’s passion for sharing food rooted in heritage and tradition. Diners can expect a menu packed with favourites including tikka dishes, baltis, kormas, tandoori specialities and karahi, alongside a range of signature creations.
The Harrogate venue will undergo a full refurbishment before welcoming its first guests. An official opening date has not yet been confirmed, but the family hopes to launch within the next six weeks once renovations are complete.
Importantly for loyal customers, the original Darlington restaurant will continue to trade as normal.
