Preparatory work on the enhancements by North Yorkshire County Council to Junction 47 on the A1(M) near Knaresborough begins on site today (1 September), with construction scheduled to start mid September.
Congestion is an issue at this junction, for traffic coming off the southbound carriageway of the A1. The work put in place in place will address this congestion and improve road safety and help development in Harrogate & Knaresborough. It will also help to support sustainable growth by considering future housing developments, in between Knaresborough and York on the A 59. They will be widening three of the four slip roads onto and off the roundabout. Also, the installation of traffic signals on the roundabout will improve the flow of traffic, thereby helping the issue of vehicles queuing on the slip road from the A1.
