Commercial Street the Shopping Street
Shop local with a community of independent retailers in the centre of Harrogate
Commercial Street the Shopping Street – Commercial Street is something special.
Despite trying Covid times, our street community spirit remains vibrant, and we are thrilled that 17 shops are paid up members of our new retailers group, and so represented on our website and social media. That’s over 70%!
During lockdown, people really missed the chance to visit local shops. We want to make people aware of all that commercial street has to offer, as it is pretty unique in Harrogate and generally overlooked and underrated – people don’t realise what they have on their doorstep! Some of the best independent shopping in Harrogate.
Since establishing the retailers group in October, they have surged forward with plans to put commercial street well and truly on the Harrogate map.
They have just launched their new Website www.commercial-street.co.uk where you can sign up for their monthly newsletter featuring special offers. They have also embraced technology in the form of QR codes – Look out for QR codes in the members’ shop windows where you can also sign up to their newsletter. They even have their own YouTube channel !
A new shop has opened on 27 Commercial Street, Foxy Antiques, next to Books for All – Foxy antiques and interiors is a unique shopping experience, selling an eclectic selection of antiques, vintage, retro and also brand new stock. There is always something new and unique to discover in our shop. At Foxy they love the unusual, which you’ll be sure to discover when you visit. A warm welcome is waiting for you and they are always happy to help you find just what you’re looking for!
There are 2 things that you need to know about Commercial Street. Firstly, our street is unique in Harrogate town centre, as all our shops, over 20, are independent, offering some of the most interesting shopping in Harrogate. Unless of course you add our 3 longstanding charity shops; Age UK, Shelter and Martin House Children’s Hospice, where your custom and donations really make a difference.
Secondly, who knew that over 50% of our shops have been here for over 10 years! Given the rise of out of town shopping, internet shopping and to say nothing of Covid’s impact that’s pretty extraordinary nowadays and pays testament to the level of service and expertise they offer.
Don’t forget as independent shops, the owners generally live, work and spend locally, so supporting locals supports others, keeps money in our local economy
