Harrogate is raising the bar this holiday season with an ambitious bid to become the UK’s top Christmas destination. Spearheading this festive campaign is local hotelier Simon Cotton, who, alongside a group of residents, has released an original Christmas song to complement the town’s expanded holiday offerings.

While other towns are scaling back on festive celebrations, Harrogate is doubling down with a jam-packed calendar of events and attractions. Thanks to a collaborative effort between local businesses, North Yorkshire Council, and Harrogate BID, the town centre now sparkles with its most dazzling display of Christmas lights yet. The popular Christmas market has also been extended to three weeks, kicking off on Friday, 29 November 2024.

A Song for the Season The heart of Harrogate’s festive push is “Merry Christmas Harrogate”, an original song penned by Simon Cotton and composed by Joe Pearce. Performed by the newly formed local band The Straymen, the song features Simon’s friends Harry Arnison, Harvey Burns, and Harvey’s six-year-old daughter, Isabella. Those who wish to visit for our Magical Christmas Experience will need to purchase TWO separate types of ticket: The first, is a Magical Christmas Family Ticket which admits up to 5 people into the park. All visitors (including babies and children) must be accounted for within the 5 person headcount of your Magical Christmas Family Ticket. If there are more than 5 people in your party, you will need to purchase additional group member tickets at £13-£16* each. The second is a Santa Experience Ticket which MUST also be purchased for every child (aged 0-12) within the party wishing to see Santa. (These tickets cannot be purchased in isolation and children must be accounted for in the headcount of the Family Ticket). Children with Santa Experience tickets will be given wristbands which entitle them to a festive activity pack and a personal family visit with Santa and receive a special Christmas gift. Santa Experience tickets cater to children aged 0-12 years. If you plan to bring an infant to meet Santa individually, the infant will need their own Santa Experience ticket. For instances where other children are accompanying you to see Santa but you don’t need a gift for the baby, the baby can still join the Santa visit without a Santa Experience ticket. Please also be aware that although the middle of the attraction (picnic areas, trail area, woodland) is accessible for pushchairs, this does not extend to the Cave, Well and Museum/Gift Shop due to the steps and gravelled ground. We recommend bringing a sling for little ones and parking pushchairs under the shelter provided just before the steps. During the winter months the temporary surfaces throughout the park make the attraction unsuitable for people with impaired mobility. Please note that we cannot allow dogs into the attraction during this time due to the unique set up of our Christmas event. Getting Here: Knaresborough is conveniently located a few miles from Harrogate and is easily accessible by road, rail, or bus. The town is under 5 miles from the A1 and is connected to national transport routes via regular trains from Leeds and York.

• By Car: Free Park and Ride service is available all weekend from GSPK car park on Manse Lane (HG5 8LF) to Chapel Street near the Market Square. Additional paid parking is available at Chapel Street, Fisher Street, and York Place. Due to road closures near the Market Square, we highly recommend using the Park and Ride service.
• Public Transport: Regular buses from Harrogate stop at the bus station next to the Market Square. Bus number 36 offers onward travel to Ripon and Leeds. Trains from Leeds run every 30 minutes, and trains from York run hourly. For more information, visit Northern Railway.
