Little Bird’s Artisan Market is making its much-anticipated return to Ripon this Bank Holiday weekend, offering a vibrant showcase of local craftsmanship and creativity. The market will feature a wide range of artisan trades, from handcrafted jewelry and woodworking to photography, giving visitors the chance to explore unique, one-of-a-kind creations.

Running on August 25th and 26th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Little Bird Bank Holiday Weekend Artisan Market invites the community to support local makers and enjoy an array of handmade arts, crafts, and gourmet food and drink. Whether you’re looking for artisanal snacks or bespoke gifts, the market promises something for everyone.

Adrian Cubbin, the owner of Mutt Munchies, shared his excitement: “We’re thrilled to return to Ripon for this Bank Holiday! The atmosphere at Little Bird Markets is always buzzing, with a great energy among fellow traders, which makes the whole experience even more rewarding.”

He further emphasized the value these markets bring: “Little Bird markets offer a unique platform for us traders, creating a sense of community. It’s a fantastic opportunity for small businesses to connect with local audiences and showcase our work.”

Founder of Little Bird Artisan Markets, Jackie Crozier, expressed her enthusiasm for the event’s growing success: “Summer is in full swing, and we’ve put together an exceptional market for this month. It’s thrilling to see our artisan market expand with each event, and I’m excited to bring these talented traders to Ripon Market Place. Thanks to the support of Ripon City Council, we’ve organized a Bank Holiday weekend packed with activities, live music, fairground rides, and more.”

The market is shaping up to be one of the weekend’s highlights, offering not only arts and crafts but also entertainment for the whole family. Visitors can look forward to a lively, fun-filled atmosphere—perfect for a weekend outing.

A day in the life of a Trader….

Antony from AJB Cured Meats, gives an insight into a day trading in Harrogate.

It was a cool, dry day and Valley Gardens looked magnificent in its autumnal colours. Setting up in a slightly challenging location went well, there was always assistance around to help carry, and I was in a great spot – always different and always good.

Sales began as soon as I had set up, which always helps as my fear is that no one will come, and I will sell nothing. It never happened before, but you never know. The super stalls on either side made for a fun and exciting time. We all drew in the customers with plenty of good humour and great products and sales were constant throughout the day, keeping me super busy.

What was so special on the fifth was that I sold out of everything I brought. I had not packed light, but rather I brought what I think is too much based on previous sales in Harrogate, just in case. I know on the one hand, I think I will sell nothing, and on the other, I am always an optimist. So, the optimist was proved right, breaking all my previous sales records for the Artisan markets by a country mile. And on top of that, my purpose is to meet customers who I can sell to repeatedly – I managed that in spades.

Overall, a wonderful day. I have never sold out fully before, there were not even any samples left. The only problem is that I am having to start early Monday morning to make more stock – no peace for the wicked.

Thanks again, Jackie. A super day in a super place with super customers and super organisation.

ABOUT LITTLE BIRD ARTISAN MARKETS

We are an artisan market that wants to help serve local communities with the best artisan stalls, whilst giving traders the best opportunities to showcase and sell their handmade goods.

Here at Little Bird, we feel passionate about showcasing local talents, artisans, and small creative pop-ups whilst building a sense of community through our quality artisan markets.  Bringing people together in a vibrant and friendly atmosphere, creating a fun space to hang out with family & friends, where you can eat, drink, shop and be merry, is our mission!

The Little Bird Artisan Market offers a diverse, quality, shopping experience that celebrates independent producers and makers. But more than that, it’s about people and the community; meeting the artisan makers, conversation with friends, and getting the social back into shopping.

Little Bird was set up in the Summer of 2018 by seasoned event manager Jackie Crozier. Jackie has worked on large scale events for over 20 years including as Festival Director of Manchester Pride, a 45,000 ticketed event in Manchester City Centre; the London 2012 Olympics; British Transplant Games, organising events at Manchester United, Manchester City and working on numerous events such as Creamfields, Kendal Calling, Download Festival to V festival.

Jackie is passionate about shopping local and supporting small businesses and so whilst staying in her hometown of Ripon in North Yorkshire, she saw a gap in the market for a traditional artisan market. Fast forward to 2023 and Jackie has built up a n experienced reputation and is often asked to consult on day to day management of markets and events.

Jackie puts her traders, customers, and the communities at the heart of everything she does. It’s about getting good quality artisans and giving them the best footfall she can while encouraging people to come out and shop local.

And the clues in the name . . .  Little Birds who are starting out in their artisan journey will one day fly the nest and take on the world.
