Latest jobs figures out

Figures from the Government showed that there were 1,185 employment-related benefit claimants locally in November which was 1.9 per cent of the working age population.  This compares to a rate of 3.7 per cent nationally.

There were 165 claimants aged 18-24, which was 3.3 per cent of the population aged 18-24. The equivalent UK claimant rate was 5 per cent.

The change from last year was an increase of 35 claimants. However, there has been an encouraging year-on-year decrease in the number of young unemployed in Harrogate and Knaresborough.

Local MP Andrew Jones commented: “A strong jobs market depends on an economic direction which is robust and long-term in its approach. These longstanding good jobs figures for our area reflect that. I am particularly encouraged that youth unemployment continues to be low.”

Ripon School Earns Outstanding Ofsted Rating after Merger

Moorside Primary School and Nursery in Ripon is celebrating remarkable success as Ofsted awarded it a ‘good’ rating across all four categories in its first inspection since the merger of Moorside Junior School and Moorside Infant School in 2019.

Government inspectors commended the school in areas such as the quality of education, behavior and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. Noteworthy aspects include the positive relationships between pupils and staff, the respectful treatment of teachers and peers, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents.

Inspectors specifically highlighted the school’s ambitious curriculum, fully aligned with national standards, and praised the dedication of the staff. One parent remarked, “Our children are so lucky to start their education at Moorside. The school is a credit to itself and the community.”

Executive member for education, learning, and skills, Cllr Annabel Wilkinson, expressed congratulations to the school leaders, governors, staff, and everyone involved in achieving this outstanding judgment. Headteacher Mrs. Claire Rowett expressed gratitude to the committed staff, governors, and parents, emphasizing the strong community ethos with children at its core.
